A Real GPS:

Once 3~5 Satellites are being captured users will receive the position accurate within 5~10 meters.
GPS Accuracy is affected by a number of factors, including satellite positions, noise in the satellites radio signal, atmospheric conditions, and natural barriers to the signal. Noise can create an error between 1 to 10 meters and results from static or interference from something near the receiver or something on the same frequency.
Once capture 3~5 Satellites or more the receiver accuracy will be within about 5 to 15 meters (3D).
A Fake GPS:
A "Fake GPS" is to simulate the power of Satellite-based GPS (Globe Positioning System) by means of other means.
Any Device say it is a GPS Navigator but without direct connection with the GPS Satellites Signal is only a Fake GPS.
A fake GPS is a general terms describing the use of signals from cell phone towers or Wi-Fi hotspots to triangulate and display the position of a user of a mobile electronic device.
Fake GPS users will only receive a limited position accurate over 100~1000 meters (2D only).
It is a misleading advertising to promote a GPS (or AGPS) device that actually not connected with the Satellites.
The definition of GPS is: The Global Positioning System is a space-base Satellite Navigation System.

Remark:
A good external GPS Antenna is the foundation of a good GPS Navigation system.
A good external GPS Antenna capture more Satellites (max. 12) and give higher "3D position Accuracy".
(If you want to use the Laptop GPS in a more sheltered position and leave the Antenna at open space then you need a longer Antenna Cable. The RF Antenna Cable can be extending to 30 meters or longer no problem (just like a TV Antenna Cable). You should never use a USB extension cable longer then 2 meters or you will found data lost and system malfunction.)

Windows 8.1 ~10 is an new OS but lack of backward compatibility. All old versions laptop GPS receivers (win7, xp ...) will not work on win8 laptop.
You need a latest versions of Laptop GPS Receiver with win8 chipset.
The new win8 chipset is backward compatible to win7, xp, Android, Mac or Linux.
